چکیده

The use of hand gesture provides an attractive alternative to cumbersome interface devices for human computer interface. In our research, we exploit multiple cues including divergence features, vorticity features and hand motion direction vector. Divergence and vorticity are derived from the optical flow for hand gesture recognition in videos. The hand tracking algorithm finds the centroids of the moving hand regions, computes hand motion direction vector. For efficient recognition of gestures made at varying rates, an improved dynamic time warping method be introduced to our experiments where we have 12 isolated gestures and a library of 300 gestures videos. Those experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach yields a satisfactory and higher recognition rate.

Trajectory Guided Recognition of Hand Gestures having only Global Motions

One very interesting field of research in Pattern Recognition that has gained much attention in recent times is Gesture Recognition. In this paper, we consider a form of dynamic hand gestures that are characterized by total movement of the hand (arm) in space. For these types of gestures, the shape of the hand (palm) during gesturing does not bear any significance. In our work, we propose a mod...

HAGR-D: A Novel Approach for Gesture Recognition with Depth Maps

The hand is an important part of the body used to express information through gestures, and its movements can be used in dynamic gesture recognition systems based on computer vision with practical applications, such as medical, games and sign language. Although depth sensors have led to great progress in gesture recognition, hand gesture recognition still is an open problem because of its compl...

Inertial Sensor-Based Touch and Shake Metaphor for Expressive Control of 3D Virtual Avatars

In this paper, we present an inertial sensor-based touch and shake metaphor for expressive control of a 3D virtual avatar in a virtual environment. An intuitive six degrees-of-freedom wireless inertial motion sensor is used as a gesture and motion control input device with a sensor fusion algorithm. The algorithm enables user hand motions to be tracked in 3D space via magnetic, angular rate, an...

Robot Arm Performing Writing through Speech Recognition Using Dynamic Time Warping Algorithm

This paper aims to develop a writing robot by recognizing the speech signal from the user. The robot arm constructed mainly for the disabled people who can’t perform writing on their own. Here, dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm is used to recognize the speech signal from the user. The action performed by the robot arm in the environment is done by reducing the redundancy which frequently fac...

An Accelerometer Based Calculator for Visually Impaired People Using Mobile Devices

Recent trend of touch-screen devices produces an accessibility barrier for visually impaired people. On the other hand, these devices come with sensors such as accelerometer. This calls for new approaches to human computer interface (HCI). In this study, our aim is to find an alternative approach to classify 20 different hand gestures captured by iPhone 3GS’s built-in accelerometer and make hig...
